Jim Ridenour, who recently closed out 11 years of service on the Brevard County Tourist Development Council, was given a special salute during the annual Space Coast Office of Tourism Luncheon May 15 at the Radisson in Cape Canaveral.

Ridenour in 2017 served as chairman of the Tourist Development Council and also has served as vice chair of the TDC.  He is the recently retired general manager of two Melbourne hotel properties, the Courtyard by Marriott and the Residence Inn by Marriott.

In a heartfelt speech during ceremonies at the tourism luncheon, Ridenour thanked past and present Brevard County Commissioners Nancy Higgs, Helen Voltz, Mary Bolin Lewis and Curt Smith for his appointment to the TDC.  He also extended personal thanks to Tom Williamson and Tom Hermansen, of Ocean Partners Hospitality hotel management group, for being mentors and strong supporters of all his efforts.

U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, who represents Florida’s 8th Congressional District, delivered a letter of appreciation and commendation not only for Ridenour’s service to the tourism industry, but also for his military and community service.  The congressmen’s letter to Ridenour was read by Posey’s assistant, David Jackson.

The Space Coast’s annual tourism luncheon is held in partnership with the U.S. travel community to celebrate the value travel holds for the economy, businesses and personal well-being.  The event reflects on the success of the industry and serves as a way to say thanks to local hospitality professionals for working together to promote growth.
