For parents longing to give their kids the same kind of magical vacation experiences they themselves had as children, the website for NBC-TV’s “Today” show recently rounded up a Top 40 list of travel destinations sure to captivate the young ones, from toddlers to older teens.  Compiled by veteran travel writer Katie Jackson, the lineup of 40 great places to take your kids before they’re grown showcased a variety of mesmerizing tourist attractions around North America, as well as a few choice locations abroad.

Published on the website’s page for parents, the rundown of must-see-and-do travel stops for families with kids naturally included the Space Coast – particularly NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

“Where else do you get to be an astronaut for a day?” declared Jackson, who rated the complex best for ages 5 to 15.  She singled out a few of its many mind-blowing, kid-worthy experiences, such as the sensation of rocketing into space via the Shuttle Launch Experience flight simulator; the adventure of living and working on the International Space Station; the anticipation of exploring Mars provided by the Astronaut Training Experience; and the thrill of touring the famous Kennedy Space Center with an actual NASA astronaut as your guide.

The story gave families tips on additional things to do on the Space Coast and also places to eat and to spend the night: Bonus points went to the Radisson Resort at the Port (in Cape Canaveral) for its expansive, specially designed kids pool, which includes a built-in playground.

Reps from Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism worked with Jackson in identifying some of the local tourist information to consider for her list.  Today.com boasts an audience of roughly 9.5 million unique monthly visitors. In addition, the NBC program’s Facebook page, which has more than 6.3 million followers, linked to the “40 great places to take your kids” feature, emphasizing, “These are all places the whole family can enjoy.”
